This is how electricity and heat are generated from organic waste: Herhof is building the new fermentation and composting plant for organic waste at the Büttelborn site.

We are proud that we were contracted by AWS Abfall-Wirtschafts-Service GmbH to design, build and commission a combined fermentation and composting plant.

Our joint venture together with Schäfer III. GmbH & Co. KG from Biebesheim is handling the entire construction of the project with a total net contract value of almost EUR 28 million. Herhof is responsible for the process technology and Schäfer III. for the construction work.

The biogas plant will handle up to 35,000 tons of biowaste annually from the municipal organic waste bin in the Groß-Gerau district and produce up to 1.9 million cubic meters of biogas per year. The biogas is converted into electricity and heat in two CHP plants and produces up to four million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.

This year Herhof will have a joint booth at IFAT in Munich again with its holding company Helector S.A. During world´s leading trade fair for water, sewage, waste and raw materials management from May 13th - May 17th Herhof will present its latest projects and solutions for waste treatment with a lot of know-how to trade visitors . The official opening of the state-of-the-art facility in Bernburg (Saale) took place on October 24th, 2022.

After completion of construction works we have made air pictures of the plant in Croebern. The plant treats approx. 42,000 t/a biowaste and green waste coming from municipal collection in our Herhof fermenters and bio boxes.

On Monday, September 12, 2022, the new composting plant "Am Buchstein" in the district Bayreuth was officially opened by the Bavarian State Minister for Environment and Consumer Protection, Thorsten Glauber. District administrator Florian Wiedemann and other well-known politicians from city and district of Bayreuth also took part in the opening ceremony.

After completion of construction works we have made air pictures of the plant in Bernburg. The plant treats approx. 26,000 t/a digestate coming from a plug flow process in our Herhof bio boxes.
